After Retrocession, in order to take over Taiwan, the household registration business was temporarily assumed by the Police Administration Section, Taiwan Provincial Governor's Office, and that of Keelung was managed by the police station until it's designated to be conducted by Civil Administration Section, Keelung City Government, in accordance with the stipulation made by the Central Government in April, 1946.

From July 1, 1969, in an attempt to cope with the rebellion-suppression conditions, "the integration of household registration and police affairs" was tentatively performed, and the household registration institutes of Taiwan Province were reshuffled: the household registration sections of the county, city, hsiang, town, and district office were reorganized into household registration offices, and, in Keelung City, the household registration offices were respectively established in the District of Chungcheng, Hsinyi, Jenai, Chungshan, Anleh, Chidu, and Nuannuan.

OfficeIn the meantime, as achievements were gradually manifested, on July 1, 1973, the system of "the integration of household registration and police affairs" was implemented officially, and the household registration business under the civil authorities was assigned to the police authorities. After then, owing to the political stability, the enhancement of education and quality of life resulted from economic miracles, the repeal of martial law, constitutional amendment, and continuous renovations, on July 1, 1992, with the enforcement of "the division of household registration and police affairs," the household registration business was taken over by the civil administration again under the jurisdiction of Chungshan Household Registration Office, Keelung City Government. There are totalizing 23 Lis, 482 Lins, some 16,000 households, and more than 50,000 residents in this district.

Our office has moved to the Administration Building of Chungshan District on March 17, 2003 (1F, No. 168, Wenhua Rd., Chungshan District, Keelung City). The new administration building, covering 200 pings, is quite spacious.
